FWEF Funding for State of the Industry Research and Report

The MLOA was successful in securing $30,000 from the Fisheries and Wildlife Enhancement Fund to hire a researcher/consultant to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of hunting regulations and practices from jurisdictions across North America.

Probe Research will be tasked with investigating wildlife policies and legislation from all other Canadian provinces and comparable U.S. states, then comparing that information to what is done in similar policy areas in Manitoba. Cross-jurisdictional research will attempt to identify best practices and innovative ideas with respect to wildlife population surveys, game management and hunting season frameworks from across North America. This research can help inform Manitoba’s policies and regulations going forward, all with a view towards improving the sustainability and management of our province’s wildlife populations for all user groups.
