On behalf of the Manitoba Lodges & Outfitters Association (MLOA), we appreciate your updates regarding changes to the Big Game License Draw.
We understand the importance of balancing conservation goals with economic interests and recognizing the rights and obligations of Indigenous communities. As legislated stakeholders, outfitters acknowledge our responsibility to Manitobans and we are committed to working within the shared management framework. A transparent and inclusive consultation process will be essential in achieving these objectives.
We recognize the deep concerns expressed by licensed Manitoba resident hunters. Resident hunting opportunities hold significant value for a wide range of hunters in our province. We remain hopeful that any adjustments made are temporary. Using robust scientific data, we believe big game populations can be sustainably managed to ensure healthy big game populations in our province for generations of Manitobans to come.
Thank you for keeping us informed and for considering the perspectives of all stakeholders involved.
Don Lamont
Executive Director
Manitoba Lodges & Outfitters Association (MLOA)
