Operators Need Long-Term Clarity: Seal River Watershed Proposal

For decades, Manitoba’s northern lodges and outfitters have built businesses around responsible access to the Seal River Watershed region. Investing in infrastructure, creating jobs, supporting local economies, and helping visitors experience one of the most remote parts of our province.
Now all operators are asking a simple question:
What guarantees exist for the people and businesses already open in the region?
The Seal River Watershed could introduce a completely new management structure over a massive portion of Northern Manitoba, yet many longtime operators still don’t know what this means for their future access, licensing, operations, or ability to continue investing in the region.
Conservation and sustainable tourism have coexisted in this region for generations. Those who have responsibly operated on the land for decades deserve certainty. Their resale value should not be in question. Their allocations should not be left in question. As the primary economic drivers in the region, the fact they are not being meaningfully considered or fully included in these conversations is difficult to understand.
These conversations matter! Not just for today, but for the future of tourism, outdoor, access, and northern Manitoba communities.
Now is the time for Manitobans to pay attention and participate. Creating an EngageMB account is a small step compared to the long-term impacts this proposal will have on our Province.
The Alliance, provincial, and federal governments have been working on this proposal since 2021, but we get 45 days to try alerting and educating our industry and the public about a proposal that has the capacity to change the future of land access, outdoor activities and Manitoba tourism for generations to come.
How is that reasonable?
