Questions still to be answered: Seal River Watershed Proposal

One of the biggest concerns surrounding the Seal River Watershed proposal is the proposed management structure.
The current proposal suggests the entire region would be overseen by a joint management board made up of Indigenous, Provincial, and Federal representatives. Yet there is still very little clarity on:
- Who has final decision-making authority?
- How disputes will be handled?
- How licensing, allocations, seasons, and enforcement decisions will be managed?
- What meaningful representation industry stakeholders will actually have?
These decisions directly impact Manitoba’s outfitting industry, hunters, anglers, tourism operators, and public land access.
As the first IPCA of its kind in Manitoba, this proposal will help shape how future protected areas are managed across the province. Manitobans deserve transparency and clear answers before long-term governance changes are finalized.
The MLOA is encouraging folks to consider reviewing this proposal as if it were your favourite outdoor space in question.
The Alliance, provincial, and federal governments have been working on this proposal since 2021, but we get 45 days to try alerting and educating our industry and the public about a proposal that has the capacity to change the future of land access, outdoor activities and Manitoba tourism for generations to come. How is that reasonable?
